The cost of Vanity.

Having so little and being so vain, it is always a challenge to get my hair cut. I have tried them all around here. I started going to Yan’s years ago, when the money was rolling in, but to save a bob or two shifted my loyalty to Mohammed at 'Gents & Boys'on Clarendon Park Rd. When asked, ‘What number would you like?’ I came over like Patrick McGoohan - I am not a number. However, Moh and I bonded, but I was never truly happy with the cut and after a few weeks began to look like Tintin, with a spikey bit sticking up in the middle. He thought he was doing me a favour covering my baldness with a faux Bobby Charlton. At £7 a throw it was good value though. Determined to make the most of the bit that’s left though, I returned to Yan’s yesterday. A very pretty girl washed and conditioned my hair, then Holly cut it. Well worth thirty quid.

THIRTY QUID!!!???? Bloody hell....I would expect fillet steak and chips AND a taxi home for that! Pretty girl though....was there any chance of something for the weekend?

I think your delightful hairdresser richly deserved the thirty quid, as a finder's fee if nothing else. Can't wait to see the results.

lived in oxford rd 80-84 and this was an offy.sold draught beer - you took a bottle or they sold you a reusable one - had abot 6/10 on tap any one time/.
Also later blog re mr patel - where else could you get gravy browning at 1pm on a sunday - well before the advent of 24/7.
I think he even opened for a few hours on xmas day!!

Hi Davo44, and welcome. Yes. It was Everards off-licence. Shifted a lot of cheap Bulgarian red wine too. Mr Patel's has now sold via auction and is in the process of being done up. Mr P was one of the first to embrace the video rental market too. They were next to the limp, brown, bananas!

Ooh - Pukka Pies available next door to Yan's which is a massive bonus.

The implication of this post is that the money's "rolling in" again - I wondered where it had all gone - easy come easy go eh !

He didn't spend any in Italy I can tell you. Kept pleading poverty whilst holding his glass out.

Bollocks Ron! I tried, but you and your car dealer mates were just too generous. I gather you are entertaining them tonight. Please crack into my Marenco haul. It'll save me the £1000 it will cost to come in the car and pick it up. Really! You'll be doing me a huge favour.

Pukka Pies indeed and a 'proper' barber's shop beyond, complete with red and white sign that probably has a name. Not flush yet, but equally not credit crunched..... yet.

Ermm, you haven't got the telephone number of your hairdresser have you? I'm due for a 3,000 mile service.
